Counselling
Confidential, trauma-informed counselling

Counselling can be a powerful part of the healing process.

At Northamptonshire Rape Crisis (NRC), we offer specialist, confidential counselling for anyone aged 14 and over who has experienced rape, sexual assault or sexual abuse, whether recent or in the past.

You can access our service through our main centre in Northampton, our base in Kettering, or the other accessible locations across the county.

How Counselling Helps

Survivors often tell us counselling helps them:

  • feel more in control
  • reduce anxiety, shame or self‑blame
  • understand trauma responses
  • rebuild confidence and self‑worth
  • process memories safely
  • move forward with greater steadiness and hope

Counselling doesn’t erase what happened - but it can help you feel less alone with it, and more able to live the life you want. Reach out when you’re ready.

Northamptonshire Rape Crisis offer:

A safe, women only space

Our counselling takes place in a calm, welcoming women‑only environment, created so women survivors can feel safe, grounded and protected.

Many women tell us that having a space away from men helps them relax, feel less on edge, and begin to rebuild trust at their own pace.

Our team are all female

Every counsellor at NRC is a trained, specialist female therapist.

Survivors tell us this helps them feel safer, more able to talk openly, and more supported in processing trauma that often involves gendered power and harm.

Inclusive support

Sexual violence affects people of all genders and identities. We provide specialist counselling for LGBTQ+ survivors, men and boys, and survivors of all genders. Every survivor is met with dignity, respect and trauma‑informed care.

Specialist support from trained counsellors

You’ll be matched with a counsellor based on your needs and experiences, and offered weekly sessions at the same time each week to support stability and routine.

All our services are completely free.
